Huge investment in Youth Services as it is moved ‘in-house’

The Council will be running the services currently provided by Sheffield Futures ‘in-house’ once its contract finishes at the end of September 2020. The move is part of the Labour’s strategic planning to run services internally where possible.

The decision to bring the services back in-house will mean better linking of services, and is part of Labour’s £2 million in additional investment in support for young people. We will ensure this support is embedded in our communities so it is responsive to local needs and the diversity of the city.

Cllr Julie Dore, Leader of Sheffield City Council, said:

The decision to bring the services back in house is part of our £2 million additional investment that will ensure more support and guidance for our young people and embed this support in our communities so it is responsive to local needs and the diversity of the city.

“I want to thank Sheffield Futures for their hard work, dedication and expertise in delivering this contract for young people over a number of years.”

Sheffield Futures will continue to provide valuable services for the young people of Sheffield through their other services, especially those related to employment and well-being, and including specialist careers guidance for schools.

The services that are being transferred are:

Community Youth Teams
Child Sexual Exploitation
SEND CEIAG
Youth work commissioned through this contract
Youth Cabinet
Missing young people Return Home Interview team
Engagement and progression for young people Not in Education, Employment and Training (NEET) or at risk of NEET

The Council and Sheffield Futures will work closely until the point of transfer to ensure that the high quality of service delivery to our young people continues up to and beyond the transfer.
