From Labour Councillors Adam Hurst and Andy Bainbridge:

“We understand the concerns raised about the situation with Staindrop Lodge, and are determined to find a future solution which meets the needs of the local community.

Currently there is a private planning application to the site. This is not an application by Sheffield Council or the Ecclesfield Parish.

Labour councillors are opposing this application in the strongest terms.

We have started a petition outlining why we believe the planning application should be rejected. We want to see the site used to meet local needs, what is proposed does not do this.

We will then take this petition to Sheffield Council’s Planning Committee and together, hopefully, we can get this planning application rejected.

The wording of the petition is below:

PETITION REGARDING THE PLANNING APPLICATION FOR STAINDROP LODGE from FAIRHOME GROUP PLC

We the undersigned wish to formally object to the planning application from Fairhome Group PLC regarding the proposals for Staindrop Lodge. The grounds of our objection are that

1. We believe the proposed extension to the premises and the subsequent lack of a clear lettings policy of the Fairhome Group does not address the support needs of the highly vulnerable residents they aim to attract, or the concerns of the Local councillors or residents
2. That any application should have a detailed brief as to exactly the commercial operation of its intended use and that the planners would, therefore, be able to look at what restrictions would be needed to not affect the Local community, safeguards put in place and also the need for Doctors, Schools and other services needed for the scale of development and the possible residents.
3. That the actual site is not suitable for an extension on the scale of the proposal being so closely sited to a major residential area
4. That with the number of rooms being proposed, it would have implications on the road networks around the site and have an unwarranted impact on Local residents
