Sheffield Liberal Democrats have been criticised by an independent charity for playing politics during the pandemic.

The independent Chair of Sheffield City Trust has written to the Leader of the Lib Dems with a strong rebuke of his claims saying Sheffield City Council has been clear in all funding negotiations that no council funds can be spent in another local authority area. Sheffield’s council taxpayers have not, and will not, subsidise losses in Scarborough.” He went on to say; “it is unreasonable to make inaccurate statements about a local charity”.

The Lib Dems fall to acknowledge that Labour councillors stepped in to save Sheffield leisure centres from permanent closure because of the pandemic, and it has been confirmed that “no council funds can be spent in another area.”

When the rest of Sheffield is coming together to support the city, the Lib Dems are playing politics with a pandemic.

The Lib Dems have been caught out lying time and time again as their election campaign turns increasingly desperate. They have no vision for Sheffield, no positive ideas or policies and are now resorting to lies that they have already been reprimanded for months ago.

Cllr Shaffaq Mohammed, Sheffield Lib Dem leader, was earlier caught bragging about using the Free School Meals issue for political reasons, even though he knew Labour would provide them saying “We’ve used that to our advantage” –

At a time when the city should be coming together the Lib Dems are being cynically opportunistic
