Following the shocking news that Sheffield may lose a third of its bus routes – following the government funding cuts and commercial bus operators withdrawing – Labour councillors are fighting back.

Working alongside South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard, a petition has been launched calling on government to think again about their cuts.

You can sign the petition here – www.stoptorybuscuts.com

We once had a world class bus service in South Yorkshire but since the private bus companies took over the network under the Tories, they have been able to run buses where they want, when they want and charge what they want.

Those companies – like First and Stagecoach – are now saying they can’t make enough money, so they’re threatening to cut a third of our bus routes. That means our region will lose vital transport links, making it really hard for people to get to work, see friends and family or even travel to a doctor’s appointment.

Our communities deserve a public transport system like the one they have in London. That’s what the government promised us, but now they’re refusing to give us the money or the powers over our buses to make that happen.

Let the Government know that you want South Yorkshire to have the bus service that we deserve.

Sign our petition and send the Tory government a message, that we in South Yorkshire deserve better.
