Campaigners are celebrating after train companies delay devastating plans to close ticket offices at stations across the Country.
Highlighting the impact of plans on vulnerable members of society; campaigners have demanded that Government reconsider the decision to close ticket offices at railway stations.
Labour and Co-operative Councillor Ben Miskell said;
“I am pleased the Government and train companies have paused their reckless decision – but this is a pause not a reversal. I have written to Government with Council Leader Cllr Tom Hunt to ask government to explore alternative strategies that maintain the existing infrastructure while embracing technological advancements”
“We are urging government to consider the concerns raised by passengers and the wider community that the closure of ticket offices could only have negative impacts on passengers experience and erode the sense of community and personal touch that has long been associated with rail travel”
“Instead we are urging government and train companies to modernise ticket offices, improve staff training especially for serving customers with disabilities and promoting the integration of digital tools alongside face-to-face interaction”
