Residents in Wisewood will soon have a new space to play, relax and enjoy the outdoors, as Council Leader Bob Johnson approved final plans for a new park and playground at Spider Park.

People living in the area have been asking for improvements to the park, on the site of the former Wisewood School, and Labour councillors have been working with the local communities over recent years to ensure the new park is right for area and delivers on what people want to see.

Following recent feedback from the community the original scope of the project has been increased, and this has now been formally approved by the Council.

The new park is the last piece of the jigsaw for leisure opportunities in the Wisewood area over recent years after the creation of the Leisure Centre, the on-site pitches and a community garden.

Hillsborough Councillor Bob Johnson, Leader of the Council, said: “We’ve been working with local residents to get this right – and I’m delighted that work is about to start.

“There have been a number of hurdles over the years, so it’s even more pleasing that we’re now over them and can deliver what people in Wisewood have been asking for. From the onset we have wanted to create a haven where local people can get outdoors, have fun and enjoy some fresh air.

“I used to go to the old Wisewood School so it’s also been an interesting personal journey for me in being able to sign-off plans for the park as Leader of the Council.

“I want to thank all the people in the community who have made these plans a reality, and I’m excited to be able to take my little one to the playground soon”
